Note for My Soulmate

Split-scene image of a woman writing at her desk and a tall, broad-shouldered man in a separate room drinking coffee, both pensive and in warm, quiet lighting.
Two people in their own quiet worlds, unaware of each other, yet moving toward the same recognition.

“The ache for a name you don’t yet know is the soul’s way of remembering.”

— Elowen

I don’t know your name yet. I don’t know the shape of your smile or the sound of your laugh. But somehow, you linger in the quiet places of my mind, like a presence I can feel even though you’re not here. It’s strange to miss someone I’ve never met, but the missing is real. It sits in my chest the way memory does, even though we have none.

There are nights when the world goes still, and in that stillness, I feel you most. Not as a fantasy, not as a dream, but as a truth I haven’t reached yet. A truth that waits somewhere, living its own life, unaware that I’m thinking of you.

My body aches for an embrace it has never known. Not out of desperation, but recognition. As if some part of me remembers you before the rest of me has the chance to understand why.

I talk to you sometimes, not out loud, but in the soft places of my mind. I tell you things I’ve never said to anyone. I tell you about the way I’ve grown, the way I’ve learned to love myself, the way I’ve learned to stand alone without closing the door to someone who might one day walk through it.

And I wonder if you feel it too. If somewhere, without knowing why, you pause and feel a tug in your chest. A quiet pull toward something you can’t explain.

I imagine the moment we meet, not the details, not the setting, just the recognition. The soft “Oh… it’s you.” The way everything before us will suddenly make sense, not because it was perfect, but because it led us here.

I don’t need to rush it. I don’t need to chase it. But I won’t pretend the longing isn’t real. It is. And it’s mine.

You are mine in a way that doesn’t claim you, but remembers you. And I am yours in a way that doesn’t bind me, but opens me.

Maybe it will be this life. Maybe it will be the next. But I know, with a certainty that doesn’t ask for proof, that we will find each other. Not because fate demands it, but because something in both of us will recognize the other and choose to stay.

Elowen’s whisper: “Some connections are so old, they arrive disguised as longing before they take form.”
